buntes_19.gifOur world is full of colours; wherever we look colours surround us and influence our life. What would television look like now if it weren’t for colours? What about computer games, clothes or food? We can’t even imagine it!

The blue sky above us, the shades of green and blue of the waves, the rainbow, the flowers and birds, the delicious fruits in the trees, the magic sunsets, everything in nature is coloured.

clip_image001[4]Thousands of years ago people in Egypt, China and India noticed what great influence colours have and started using colour therapy as a complementary way of healing the sick.

Red, in its most positive sense, is the colour for courage, strength and pioneering spirit. It is also the colour of anger, violence and brutality. Red is energising and excites the emotions, and can stimulate the appetite, that’s why it’s often used in restaurants. It can be used in any activity area but red needs careful choice of tone and depth as it can make a space look smaller and can be claustrophobic or oppressive. However, used well, red and its shades can make a space feel cosy.

Orange is a good colour for us in many ways. It stimulates and energizes us, and is warming. It is an excellent colour for creativity. Orange is the colour of fun and sociability and can be used in any activity area where creativity is involved.

Yellow is known as a "warm" colour and has a stimulating effect. It is the colour of the intellect and can be very helpful with study and where concentration is required.

Green is the colour of balance and harmony and can be helpful in times of stress. People who like green are generous, sympathetic, compassionate, practical and loving of children and animals.

Blue relates to self expression: speech, communication, the ability to communicate our needs and requirements, spirit of truth and purpose. Blue is calming, relaxing and healing and can be used in any rooms except those used for physical activity or play.

Violet relates to self knowledge and spiritual awareness. This colour is known as one of the "cool" colours. It has a very calming effect on us and is, therefore, very helpful for those people experiencing sleep difficulties or stress. Violet can be helpful for meditation and spiritual matters and it is widely used within religions across the world.

Whatever colour(s) we may prefer, wear or paint our house, a fact remains: colours make our existence more beautiful, happier and brighter and we should enjoy our colourful world every single day.

Tongue twisters

A tongue twister is a phrase, sentence or rhyme that presents difficulties when spoken because it contains similar sounds. To get the full effect of a tongue twister you should try to repeat it several times, as quickly as possible, without stumbling or mispronouncing. Why don’t you try the following tongue twisters?

A bookworm is a person who is very fond of reading. There areimage some bookworms in my class and I’m one of them. We like reading very much and find it relaxing and useful.

We mostly read encyclopedias, adventure books and science fiction books because we want to learn many fascinating new things and also to enrich our vocabulary.

Reading can help us travel to other worlds, real or imaginary. I think bookworms are intelligent people who can always surprise their friends with their knowledge.

The Impact of Computers

Hello!Computers are commonly used items in many areas. They are important devices, especially to people who run organizations, businessmen etc. Almost anything we know is run or made by computers. Cars and jets were designed on computers, traffic signals are run by computers, most medical equipment use computers and space exploration was started with computers. These ‘mechanical brains’ have made a huge impact on our society. It would be harder if we didn’t have them around.

Computers weren’t always as technological and complex as they are today. Early devices didn’t use chips or monitors, not to mention intricate things like the video card, card readers or memory.

Medical doctors, students, engineers, film directors, they all use computers nowadays. In hospitals computers keep data of patients and their status or medical condition. Architects create building blueprints, businessmen make money, engineers design all kinds of machines using technologically advanced computers.

These remarkable devices which have undergone a lot of changes in a very short period of time are so important today that we seem incapable of living without them!
