School Policy

School policy

Children, staff and parents work actively in partnership to enable all children to realize their full potential.

Educational aims

We aim for our pupils to:

  • feel safe and valued as part of a caring community;
  • be independent thinkers and learners who are able to seek solutions creatively and co-operatively;
  • inspire an ‘enquiring’ mind and ask questions;
  • be polite and courteous;
  • understand and respect diversity;
  • develop a sense of self-esteem;
  • be well balanced and healthy individuals.

Our school has a definite position regarding bullying. Bullying refers to:

  • the persistent hurting, humiliating or frightening of another person. It can be done verbally, in writing or using images, including through communication technology (cyber bullying) e.g. text messaging, e-mails or posting on websites. It can be done physically, financially (including damage to property) or through social isolation.

Incidents of bullying are monitored by the School’s Discipline Committee. An annual bullying survey is undertaken. There regular talks during the Counselling classes aimed at increasing the awareness among pupils of the need to treat each other with consideration.

The advice to pupils is as it follows:

  • Bullying will continue to exist as long as you remain silent.
  • If you are being bullied, report to your teacher or any other adult in school. Do not be intimidated by a bully saying it will be worse if you report bullying.
  • When someone else is being bullied or in distress, take action. Watching and doing nothing may suggest support for the bully.
  • Always treat others as you would like to be treated yourself. Remember that calling someone names or incessant teasing is bullying. Do not become a bully yourself.

When someone else is being bullied or in distress, take action.

Actions to be taken by the School:

Our initial concern is to prevent bullying rather than to punish the bullies. In case where bullying has occurred, our action will be:

  • to support the victim in any appropriate way;
  • to educate the bully;
  • to deter the bully. Any serious bullying offence will be recorded in writing, the parents of the bully will be notified and the rules and regulations will be applied.
